Landlords should help out tenants struggling with their rent
Tenants who are struggling with their rent payments and their
landlords should make sure that they are taking the time to
communicate so that both are benefiting as much as possible.
David Lawrenson, private rented sector expert at LettingFocus.com,
has said that it is in the best interest of both to remain open,
especially in the event of an occurrence such as the tenant having
lost their job.
"My advice for tenants and landlords is to get together, speak and
try to find a workable solution - it might involve the tenant
leaving and having to find other accommodation. Most landlords
ought to be supportive in trying to find a solution," he
said.
In some cases, tenants can qualify to have their rent paid by local
housing allowance, which can help to ease the burden on their
landlords.
Earlier this week, Knight Frank reported that the cost of rent in
London properties had dropped by 0.1 per cent in March.
